Repowering is the process of replacing an existing wind turbine with a newer, more efficient and possibly larger wind turbine on the same site. It is an opportunity to make your wind turbine site more productive and more efficient whilst continuing to follow the various subsidy rules.
Many turbines that Realise Energy Services operate were installed under the Fit or ROC schemes, and as a result, an uplift in income could be achieved through increasing your turbines generation potential.
To further improve efficiency, there are many system upgrades also suitable for older turbines when being repowered. Major components such as control systems can be retrofitted with more modern technology to improve turbine production and efficiency and minimise potential for downtime.
It is important to seek professional advice regarding any repowering project to ensure it meets with any Ofgem, planning or grid legislation. This is particularly important where existing sites were installed under the FiT or ROC schemes. Your accreditation could be at risk if you do not follow the correct guidelines.

As the demand for more renewable energy increases, manufacturers are building larger turbines and have moved away from the medium wind sector. However, the quality and track record of their medium scale solutions remains unrivalled and Realise can continue to supply and support this scale of machine. The Vestas install base of medium turbines is unsurpassed and their European component supply chain remains active.
Similar to other precision engineered, long-life machines such as planes or ships, wind turbines that have been operating effectively for many years and regularly serviced can be inspected, refurbished in part or whole if necessary, and then re-installed. Access to their operational history makes them suitable for projects where clients seek a solution with lower up-front costs and an enhanced financial return with the reassurance of reliable technology with an extensive customer base.

Pre-owned turbine solutions from Realise Energy Services are where possible sourced directly from existing wind farms with service and maintenance histories, transported to a specialist facility where turbine components undergo thorough inspection, repair or replacement where necessary and then testing prior release to Realise Energy Services.

Realise Energy Services’ DEIF-trained technicians are now able to assess your turbine and then design, model and install a bespoke DEIF solution tailored specifically to your turbine. This can optimise production with increased functionality and reduced wear and tear ensuring improved turbine performance and availability.

Realise Energy Services can retrofit state of the art supervisory control and data acquisition software (SCADA) and turbine control solutions which enable better monitoring and operation of turbines – ensuring more consistent performance and availability.
A comprehensive data analysis process enables us to accurately monitor and evaluate turbine efficiency and availability, by producing graphical and numerical comparisons across the fleet of turbines which we maintain.
Our engineers are trained to analyse power curves and make site specific adjustments to ensure that turbine performance and availability is optimal for your site.
Resolving grid quality issues that might affect turbine performance.
A weak grid can result in significant downtime and increased wear on turbine components.
We use fault analysis to analyse the quality of the grid connection and incoming supply to the turbine. Realise Energy Services are able to liaise with the Distribution Network Operators on your behalf and assist in resolving grid quality issues that might affect turbine performance.
